What it covers

What this coverage is for

  • The funeral itself

The service, the burial or the cremation, and what a funeral home charges to arrange and carry it out.

  • The costs that follow

A last month of rent, a car payment, the small accounts that keep asking after somebody is gone.

  • Getting the family there

Flights, fuel and days away from work for the people who have to come and stay.

  • Decisions made in advance

What kind of service and who to call about it. Settled once by the person whose service it is.

Side by side

With a plan, and without one

When the arrangements are settled

  • The family knows which funeral home to call because it was chosen.
  • The choices are the ones the person actually wanted.
  • The questions were asked once and calmly of one licensed agent.
  • The paperwork sits in one place and somebody knows where.

When nothing is written down

  • The family decides everything in the same week they are grieving.
  • Nobody is certain what the person would have chosen.
  • Arrangements get made in a hurry at a cost nobody had time to compare.
  • Whoever can pay first pays and settles up with everyone else later.

How it works

What happens next

  1. Answer a few short questions

How much coverage you have in mind and a little about your situation. The questions after your details are optional.

  2. One licensed agent can call

One agent, licensed in your state. Your answers go to that one agent, never to several at once.

  3. They explain the options

What each kind of coverage is for and what it is not for. Nothing is bought on this page.

Answers

Questions people ask

What is this kind of coverage meant to pay for?

A funeral, a burial or a cremation, and the bills that tend to arrive in the same weeks. The person you name decides what to put it toward.

Does the money have to be spent on a funeral?

No. It goes to the person named on the policy and they decide what to do with it. Paying for the funeral is simply what most people have in mind when they buy it.

Does it end after a set number of years?

That depends which kind you buy. Term coverage is written to end on a date, and whole life is written to stay in force for as long as it is paid. The agent shows you both and what each one is for.

Is this the same as the coverage from a job?

No. Coverage arranged through an employer generally ends when the job does, and the terms were chosen by somebody else. A policy you own is yours, and the agent goes through which is which.
